Eid-ul-Adha

Eid-ul-Adha  (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎ ʻĪd al-’Aḍḥá, IPA: [ʕiːd al ʔadˁˈħaː]) or the Festival of Sacrifice also known as the Greater Eid, is the 2nd most important festival in the Muslim calendar.

The festival remembers the prophet Ibrahim's (known as Abraham in the Bible's Old Testament) willingness to sacrifice his own son when God ordered him to.

In Jewish and Christian tradition, Abraham is told by God to sacrifice his son Isaac (ʾIsḥāq) and at the last minute is stopped, at which point a ram is provided to sacrifice instead. In Islamic tradition, it is typically believed that Abraham is told to sacrifice his son Ishmael, not Isaac, though the Quran does not actually state which son. - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ishmael_in_Islam

City of Bogo's name origin has always been embedded in the heart and soul of every Bogohanon.  It is no mystery that the name points to the Bogo trees that thrived in the place where early people came to trade. The tree is called by other names in different provinces and countries.

English Garuga
Indonesia Kayu kambing (Sulawesi, Moluccas), ki langit (Sundanese), wiyu (Javanese).
Papua New Guinea Garuga
Philippines Bogo (Cebuano), Burus (Iloko), Abilo (Tagalog).
Trade Name Kedondong

The scientific name of this tree is Garuga floribunda Decne, which early botanists found abundant in Iloilo, northern Mindanao and the Central Visayas. Below is the Taxonomy Hierarchy of the Bogo Tree:

Kingdom: Plantae
   ↪ Phylum: Magnoliophyta
      ↪ Class: Magnoliatae
         ↪Order: Sapindales
            ↪Family: Burseraceae
               ↪Genus: Garuga
                  ↪Specie: Garuga floribunda Decne

Uses

  • Fodder: The leaves are used for fodder (food for livestock).
  • Food: The fruit is edible.
  • Medicine: A decoction of the bark has been given after childbirth.
  • Tannin or dyestuff: A decoction of the leaves has been used to dye mats made from Corypha leaves black.
  • Timber: The wood of G. floribunda is used for general construction, bridge building, posts, light duty flooring, furniture and cabinet work, interior trim, mouldings, shelving, skirting, sporting goods, agricultural implements, boxes and crates, carvings, toys and novelties, and turnery. It is also used for the production of veneer and plywood.
  • Shade or shelter: G. floribunda is occasionally planted as a shade tree.

Planting Your Own Bogo Tree

Clear the area where you want to plant your seedling with unwanted weeds and debris. Make sure that a one-meter radius is kept free from other vegetation. Dig a plant hole with dimensions of at least 20 cm x 20 cm x 20 cm. Plant the seedling at proper depth. Root collar should be at level with or a little below the ground surface with the seedling oriented upward. Fill the hole with top or garden soil and press soil firmly around the base of the seedling. In plantation-making, seedlings should maintain a two-meter distance between seedlings if planted in a row of a three-meter distance from one strip to the next strip.

7 - Eleven is the world's largest operator, franchisor, and licensor of convenience stores with more than 50,000 outlets worldwide. The store started in 1927 and got its name because it opened from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m., which was considered to be "extended hours" back in the mid-1900s. 7-Eleven started to stay open for 24 hours on 1963 at a store in Austin, Texas. Sixty-three (63) passengers and eighteen(18) crew members were safely brought back to Polambato port after MV Super Shuttle Ferry 10, a vessel of Asian Marine Transport Corporation, ran aground while leaving the wharf in Bogo City.

All passengers and crew members  survived unscathed. The vessel was maneuvering away from Polambato wharf at 3:30 p.m. yesterday on its way to Palompon, Leyte when it drifted and touched bottom.  Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Regional Director Nannette Villamor Diopol sent maritime safety specialists to investigate if the vessel is still seaworthy after the incident.

Sun Star reported that Asian Marine Transport Corporation vessels will be held in port until they pass the re-inspection and additional audit. MARINA will conduct a hearing and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will create a Board of Marine Inquiry to determine the cause of the accident.

Bogo City is considered as the trade and commerce hub of northern Cebu which has easy access to other provinces such as Leyte and Masbate.
